Menu is on the board. I found it confusing. It has three columns, but the middle is just an add on. First column= sandwich; Second column= add this price for two sides; Third column= plate price. Honestly, I'm still confused because the first and middle columns don't add up to the third column.
Food was great. Potato salad and baked beans. -

The bbq is good but the sides are lacking. The loaded tots are on point, and so is the banana pudding. The atmosphere is sports bar like in the back, but the lighting is way too bright. If the lights could get turned down a couple of notches and the broccoli casserole didn't make me pee out my butt then 5 stars it would be

306 BBQ has been a BBQ joint I have seen on several lists of best BBQ in Alabama. I live down nowhere close to Florence and have never been thrown Florence. However, on a recent trip, fate smiled on me. The hype is real for 306 BBQ.
The location is downtown Florence near Rosie's Cantina. You will have to park on the street. The decor is modern, lots of open space, TVs on the wall, and a bar area. There are also so many BBQ/cheesy signs all over the wall that only made me giggle. You order at the counter. The drink station is to the left of the counter and if there is one complaint about 306, it would be to put the drink station elsewhere. With people standing in line to order, there was just too many people in one area. The girl behind the counter though was very helpful in helping me make my life-changing decision haha
I went with the 3 meat combo that had ribs, brisket, pulled pork, potato salad, mac and cheese, and squash casserole. Starting with the ribs, these ribs were perfection. I do not know the term of the type of rib but basically, all the rib meat was on top of the small bone. The meat was fall off the bone tender, juicy, and with a nice rub. If I had to order one meat, the ribs would be my choice. The pulled pork was also about perfect. I would describe the pork as tender, juicy, and mixed well with the sauces. The brisket was good but I have had better brisket. The brisket was sliced with a good rub. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the brisket a 7.5 to 8, the pulled pork a 9.5, and the ribs a 10.
306 definitely has the most important objects of BBQ down...the meat. The sides were good. The potato salad was a chunky red potato in a light mayo concoction. Mac and cheese was cheesy (duh, it's sad that I have been to other places that do not understand that concept) and good but not memorable. The best side hands down was the squash casserole. The squash was buttery, mixed with a cheesy goodness, with a crunch on top of crackers. It's a shame that it is only served on specific days.
And I would not forget about the sauces! There are 3: regular, white, and hot. Regular is a ketchup base that is tangy and with a hint of sweetness. The white is a black pepper mayo base. I believe I liked it the best. The hot tasted just like Tabasco Chipotle. I like spicy but don't underestimate the hot. It is not for the faint of tastebuds.
Sweet tea was refreshingly brewed sweet!
The girl at the counter also talked me into trying their chocolate mousse. It was a cool whippy, chocolatey pudding. And I enjoyed every moment of it.
The best part of 306 though is the value! I received 3 meats and 3 sides for approximately $19. I went to a place the week before in Atlanta, paid $19, was given 2 meats and 2 sides, and not given much meat. You are going to get fed here! And I love it! 306 is must try for BBQ in Alabama. -

I was in Florence for a little business, and happened upon 306 BBQ. They happened to be catering the event I was at, but didn't get the opportunity to try. Found out they were right down the street so I popped in. Ended up going two nights in a row. First night went with the bbq chicken sandwich plate with slaw and fries. Night two I happened to catch a little sign for something called "loaded tots". Damn! They were pretty darn good.
The food was definitely tasty. The only reason I gave four instead of five stars was the service. After each purchase, and after receiving my meal, I would say thank you. The only response I got each day was "uh huh ". That just drives me crazy. Not too difficult to thank your customers for coming into your establishment and thank them for their purchase. And the simple response of "you're welcome" is always appreciated.
